On August 13, Zachary and I will join the 2012 Catalyst Foundation's Aid Expedition. This will be our 3rd Aid Expedition. We will be with a group of 36 volunteers, including 13 children. We will work in Kien Giang (the southernmost province in Vietnam near the Cambodian border). The group will be building a cafeteria, providing medical assistance to over 2000 people and volunteering at the Vinh Quang school.

August 14 - Day 2
Today we left the hotel @ 7:30 am and were working by about 7:45 am.
The teams accomplished a lot today. The paint crew which I'm now on painted, painted, and painted some more. We did 2 coats on the latest addition to the school, primer and 1 coat of paint to the cafeteria walls, and started on the red fence that surrounds the school. I have 1 outfit that is my work outfit and will not be washed until we are done. It may sound gross, but really there is no point in washing it because it is just going to get dirty and smelly again the next day. Everyone is doing the same thing. Not sure if you can see from the photo of my shorts how many different colors of paint I used today.
The kids were split up into 3 groups and rotated between weeding, trash collection, food distribution, and hauling stones and dirt. I have to say it made me a bit nervous when I saw Zach using a small machete to cut down overgrown bamboo around the school. He said tomorrow the boy's team is going to stick with hauling stones and dirt which he is very happy about. His clothes are filthy too. We both had a thin film of dust all over and it felt wonderful to come back to the room and take a shower before dinner.
The cafeteria is coming along well. In addition to our team, there are a lot of local men helping out on the project. The plan is to have it finished by Thursday so they can cook our dinner in the new kitchen. The local men are putting the tin roof on and are climbing on it with there bare feet!
The 2nd graders ate lunch with us today. They are so darn cute and so much better at eating with chopsticks than I will ever be. Today's lunch was 'pho ba' a Vietnamese beef noodle soup. I'm still nervous about the food, but I am eating it.
We will be heading to dinner in a few minutes and I will post pictures of today later. I was going to take a nap before dinner but I am afraid that I won't be able to wake up. I think it will be early to bed again tonight.
